James Patterson

James Patterson is a lecturer in Classics and the Center for the Study of Core Texts & Ideas at the University of Texas at Austin. His interests range widely in ancient religion, intellectual history, and all things pertaining to the reception, rejection, and/or reinvention of tradition both in antiquity and today. His Ancient Greek textbook, Gareth Morgan’s Lexis (Forty Acres Press, 2019), highlights the linguistic, literary, and ethnic diversity of the ancient Greek world. His current book project grounds Augustine’s philosophy of memory and time squarely in the politics and material reality of late antique North Africa.
