Al Martinich is retired as the Roy Allison Vaughan Centennial Professor in Philosophy and Professor of History and Government at the University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in the Philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, theory of interpretation, and political philosophy. His book Hobbes: A Biography (Cambridge University Press) won the Robert W. Hamilton Book Prize. He is co-editor, with Kinch Hoekstra, of The Oxford Handbook of Hobbes (Oxford University Press) and co-editor, with David Sosa, of The Philosophy of Language, 6th edition (Oxford University Press).
