“I strongly feel that art should engage people on an emotional level where change of perception reveals something new to the viewer. When painting, I tend to incorporate what is my understanding of the world around me, often experimenting with different mediums exploring constant thoughts full of meaning. My work is based on how we are connected both with each other and within the world around us. Today, we are also Web-connected, which allows us to have more choices and freedom to develop creative solutions and share information globally. For me, painting allows me the opportunity to see reality with a clear vision. All art is real, based upon physical dimension and limitless possibilities of current imagination.”
Through a progression of applying various layers of paint, the scraping and removal begins to take place alluding to a hidden history, curiosity, and identity often impulsive only to return and continue the process all over again. The outcome is often vague and challenging observations, building relationships, by means of asking viewers to find their own meaning for the work.
“I continue to express myself through the mediums of mixed media, pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, oil, acrylic, print, sculpture, and collage. I paint, study, read, learn, improve, and experiment in new mediums as often as I can.” A graduate of The University of North Texas (UNT), Lisa M. Cardenas currently holds a Master of Fine Arts and Technology from The University of Texas at Dallas.
